During the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, Chinese swimmers Li Bingjie and Zhang Yufei set Asian records. However, American swimmer Katie Ledecky managed to retain her title in the women’s 800m freestyle, beating Li by 4.44 seconds. Ledecky also defended her 1,500m crown with a time of 8 minutes and 8.87 seconds. In the women’s 50m butterfly, Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden won the gold, while Zhang Yufei of China set a new Asian record to claim the silver. Australian swimmer Kaylee McKeown secured all three women’s backstroke golds, including the 200m race.
