The U.S. airman who self-immolated outside the Israeli embassy in Washington on Sunday to protest the Gaza war has died, according to the Pentagon on Monday. The Air Force spokesperson stated that the unnamed individual “succumbed to his injuries and passed away last night,” with additional details to be provided after notifying the next of kin in the next 24 hours.
The man, dressed in military fatigues, declared in a live internet broadcast, “I will no longer be complicit in genocide.” Subsequently, he poured a clear liquid over himself and set ablaze while shouting “Free Palestine,” as reported by the New York Times. Local police and the Secret Service are currently investigating the incident.
