Türkiye has warned it will launch a cross-border offensive into northeastern Syria against the Kurdish YPG militia if its demands are not met. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Türkiye wants the YPG disbanded, foreign fighters repatriated, and its leaders to surrender. Ankara views the YPG as a terrorist group linked to Kurdish insurgents in Türkiye. Following the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Türkiye has pressed the new Syrian leadership to address the YPG’s presence. If Damascus fails, Fidan said Türkiye would consider military action. Ankara has also offered to manage prison camps housing Islamic State fighters if Syria cannot.
