Trump’s fixer-turned-foe Michael Cohen called to testify at hush money trial

Michael Cohen, formerly a loyal aide and lawyer to Donald Trump, testified on Monday in Trump’s criminal trial in Manhattan. Cohen is expected to reveal details about how he assisted Trump in concealing a payment intended to silence a porn star who alleged a sexual encounter with Trump. This testimony marks a significant moment in the trial, which has reached its fifth week.

Cohen, 57, worked closely with Trump for nearly a decade, holding a key role in his New York real estate company and serving as his personal lawyer after Trump took office in 2017. Despite his past loyalty, Cohen turned against Trump after becoming a focus in federal investigations into Trump’s 2016 campaign. Cohen is now a prominent critic of Trump, often voicing his opposition on social media and in podcasts. During Cohen’s testimony, Trump showed no visible reaction. This trial is occurring as Trump seeks to reclaim the presidency from Democratic President Joe Biden in the upcoming November election.
