Former U.S. President Donald Trump said he will “probably” meet Russian President Vladimir Putin this month after U.S. and Russian officials held talks in Saudi Arabia about ending the Ukraine conflict. Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for not making a deal with Russia earlier, calling him a “grossly incompetent” negotiator.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described the U.S.-Russia talks as a significant step toward a resolution, though he noted progress would take time. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed both countries agreed on four key principles, including forming a high-level team to negotiate peace.
Trump also said he wouldn’t oppose European peacekeeping troops in Ukraine but ruled out U.S. involvement. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy canceled his planned visit to Saudi Arabia, citing a desire to avoid “coincidences.”
