Mirra Andreeva, a 17-year-old Russian tennis player, made history by becoming the youngest-ever WTA 1000 champion after winning the Dubai Tennis Championships. She defeated Clara Tauson of Denmark 7-6(1), 6-1 in the final on Saturday.
To reach the final, Andreeva defeated three Grand Slam champions—Marketa Vondrousova, Iga Swiatek, and Elena Rybakina. After her victory, she expressed her excitement, saying she had dreamed of this moment and was speechless.
In the final, Andreeva had a shaky start, making two double faults and falling 2-0 behind, but she quickly recovered and won the first set in a tiebreak. Tauson struggled with injuries and frustration in the second set, while Andreeva dominated with powerful shots and overhead smashes, securing the win.
Andreeva, coached by Conchita Martinez, is now only the second teenager to win the Dubai tournament, after Rafael Nadal in 2006.
