Strong Earthquake Strikes Myanmar, Tremors Felt in Neighboring Countries: Bangladesh, India, Laos, Thailand, and China

A powerful earthquake struck Myanmar today, causing widespread tremors that were felt in neighboring countries, including Thailand, India, and China.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake measured 7.7 in magnitude, with its epicenter located approximately 16 kilometers north-northwest of Sagaing at a depth of 10 kilometers. Meanwhile, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences recorded the earthquake at 6.9 magnitude.

According to USGS, the earthquake struck around 12:50 p.m. local time and was followed by a strong aftershock measuring 6.4 magnitude approximately 12 minutes later.

The earthquake caused buildings to sway in Bangkok, Thailand, prompting evacuations as a precautionary measure. The tremors were also reported in parts of India and China, though no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been confirmed.

In Myanmar, the Sagaing Bridge collapsed due to the impact of the earthquake, raising concerns about transportation and infrastructure damage in the region.

Authorities in Myanmar and neighboring nations are currently assessing the situation, and emergency response teams are on standby. Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain alert and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.

As this is a developing story, further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
