Twenty-two states sued New York over its new Climate Change Superfund Act, which requires major fossil fuel companies to pay $75 billion for climate damage from 2000 to 2018. Led by West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey, the lawsuit argues the law is unconstitutional and unfairly targets a small group of energy producers. Critics claim it could set a precedent for other states and harm the national power grid. New York officials have not yet responded.
