Thai police are investigating the deaths of six people found in a room at Bangkok’s Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel on Tuesday. Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited the hotel and ordered a swift investigation, emphasizing the need to avoid negative impacts on tourism. The deceased, identified as three men and three women, were all Vietnamese nationals, with some holding dual American citizenship.
Initial investigations suggest poisoning, with signs indicating the victims consumed coffee or tea. No injuries were found during the preliminary autopsy. The food in their room was left uneaten, but cups were empty. Police suspect the deaths were homicides, not suicides, and are searching for two Vietnamese nationals deemed “persons of interest.”
The U.S. State Department is monitoring the situation and offering consular assistance. The incident occurs as Thailand aims to boost its tourism sector, which is vital to its economy, especially after a recent shooting at a nearby mall.
