China is set to host the next edition of the Women’s Basketball Asia Cup in Shenzhen from July 13 to 20, 2025, as confirmed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). This marks China’s fourth time hosting the prestigious tournament, with previous host cities including Shanghai in 1984, Qinhuangdao in 2005, and Wuhan in 2015. The announcement comes after China’s sensational comeback and historic victory in the 2024 edition, where they claimed their first title since 2012 by narrowly defeating the five-time defending champion Japan. Shenzhen, known for its technological advancement and cultural vibrancy, is deemed an ideal platform for showcasing the region’s top national teams and women’s basketball talent. FIBA Executive Director Hagop Khajirian expressed excitement about China’s return to the forefront of basketball in the region, emphasizing the country’s rich basketball heritage and commitment to advancing the women’s game. Shenzhen’s passionate basketball community is expected to provide an unparalleled experience for players and spectators, contributing to the growth and popularity of women’s basketball.
