Scientist in Brazil aims to use AI to save wildlife from roadkill fate

In Brazil, where wildlife faces a dire threat from roadkill, a computer scientist has devised an innovative solution using AI. Approximately 16 wild animals are killed every second on the country’s extensive road network, posing a significant risk to various species. The Brazilian Center for Road Ecology reports that around 475 million vertebrate animals, predominantly smaller species like capybaras and armadillos, fall victim to road accidents annually. Gabriel Souto Ferrante, a computer science student, was inspired to address this issue after witnessing the staggering impact on Brazil’s diverse wildlife.
