South Korea’s presidential security chief, Park Jong-joon, appeared for police questioning on Friday over allegations of obstructing the arrest of President Yoon Suk-yeol. Park defended his actions, stating the arrest attempt on January 3 at the presidential residence was improper given Yoon’s current status.
The impeachment motion against Yoon was passed in December, suspending his presidential powers while the constitutional court deliberates. Yoon faces charges of insurrection after declaring and quickly revoking martial law in early December. A second arrest warrant for Yoon has been issued with an extended validity period.
