A new report revealed that the U.S. Secret Service failed to prevent an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally on July 13, which left one person dead and several injured. The Secret Service did not use available technology to detect a drone flown by the attacker before the incident and failed to coordinate effectively with local police, leading to security lapses. Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned amid backlash, and Acting Director Ronald Rowe acknowledged the agency’s failures. Following the incident, the Secret Service has increased security for Trump, who faced a second assassination attempt in Florida just two months later. In response, Congress passed a bill to enhance protection for presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
