Qatari emir calls for Gaza ceasefire in talks with Blinken
The Qatari Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, emphasized the immediate need for a ceasefire in a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. He called for the protection of civilians, ensuring humanitarian aid delivery to all areas of the Gaza Strip, and reducing escalation for stability in the region. Qatar’s Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, expressed that the recent killing of a senior Hamas leader impacted Qatar’s mediation efforts but reaffirmed the commitment to continue mediation. Blinken stated he would address the issue of protecting civilians during his Middle East tour and emphasized the right of Palestinian civilians to return home. The tour aims to de-escalate the situation following the killing of a senior Hamas leader.
