A powerful storm system wreaked havoc across the U.S. on Wednesday, bringing tornadoes, blizzards, and wildfires. In Mississippi, three people were killed due to falling trees and power lines. Tornado warnings were issued across the Carolinas, Florida, and Virginia, with confirmed tornadoes in Union County, North Carolina, and several states in the South.
Texas faced severe wildfires fueled by high winds and dry conditions, with at least 20 structures destroyed in San Patricio County. Meanwhile, a blizzard in the Midwest dumped heavy snow, closing roads and causing crashes in Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska. Minnesota’s governor deployed the National Guard to assist stranded drivers.
The severe weather disrupted Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, forced power outages for thousands, and led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights. Forecasters also warned of an incoming Pacific storm that would bring rain and mountain snow to California and the West through Friday.
