The Philippine government confirmed the death of two seafarers and severe injuries to two others in a recent missile strike by the Houthi group on the cargo ship True Confidence in the Gulf of Aden, off southern Yemen. The vessel, reportedly carrying 20 crew members, including 15 Filipinos, was hit by anti-ship ballistic missiles. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) stated that it is coordinating with the ship’s owner and manning agency for the repatriation of the remaining Filipino crew members. The surviving Filipinos have been taken to a safe port. The Philippines, a major supplier of maritime labor globally, is working on ensuring the welfare of its seafarers, and this incident follows a previous one in November where 17 Filipino seafarers were taken hostage by the Houthi group in the Red Sea.
