A significant number of South Korean trainee doctors, totaling 8,816, have submitted their resignations in protest of the government’s proposal to increase the enrollment of medical students. The trainee doctors’ mass resignation is a response to the planned expansion of medical student intake by the government. In reaction to the strike, a civic group has filed a complaint against the protesting doctors, and leaders of a doctors’ association have requested police to investigate them for potential violations of medical and other laws.
