NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams have arrived at Kennedy Space Center ahead of Boeing’s Starliner capsule’s first crewed spaceflight, scheduled for May 6. The mission aims to catch up with SpaceX in ferrying astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). Previous unmanned Starliner flights faced technical issues, but Wilmore emphasized this as a test flight to identify any potential problems. NASA remains committed to having multiple providers for crew transportation, even as the ISS nears its planned retirement by 2030. Wilmore and Williams will be the first astronauts to launch atop an Atlas rocket since NASA’s Project Mercury in the 1960s.
