Microsoft and Constellation Energy have announced a deal to restart the partially decommissioned Three Mile Island nuclear plant, with Microsoft committing to buy all the power for 20 years. The plant, notorious for the 1979 partial meltdown, will be brought back online by 2028 at a cost of $1.6 billion. The deal aims to meet Microsoft’s energy needs for AI operations. While the project promises economic benefits, like creating 3,400 jobs, it faces regulatory hurdles and public skepticism, especially over the use of federal subsidies and safety concerns.
