Man who stabbed former S. Korean opposition party chief jailed for 15 years

The attacker who assaulted former South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. The incident occurred during Lee’s visit to Busan on January 2, when the attacker, identified as 67-year-old Kim, approached him under the guise of seeking an autograph and then stabbed him in the neck. Kim’s stated motive was to prevent Lee from becoming president. Lee, then chief of South Korea’s main opposition Democratic Party, underwent hospitalization for more than a week due to his neck injury before being discharged.
