Macron, Bach call for Olympic Truce during the upcoming Games

French President Emmanuel Macron and IOC President Thomas Bach have called for a global truce during the upcoming Paris Summer Olympics and Paralympics. At the opening ceremony for the 142nd IOC Session in Paris, Macron emphasized France’s collaboration with the IOC to make Paris 2024 a symbol of “peace, true and hope,” and declared the start of the Olympic Truce with the Games. Bach highlighted the Olympic values of solidarity, equality, and human dignity, referencing the Olympic Truce Mural in the Olympic Village. The UN formally adopted a resolution for the Olympic Truce in November 2023, which is to be observed from seven days before the Olympics to seven days after the Paralympics. The Paris Summer Olympics will run from July 26 to August 11, 2024, followed by the Paralympics from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
