The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has granted provisional recognition to World Boxing, marking a significant step toward boxing’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. After expelling the International Boxing Association (IBA) in 2023 due to governance and financial issues, the IOC had urged national boxing federations to form a new governing body. World Boxing, established in 2023 and now with 78 members across five continents, met key IOC criteria, including governance reforms and adherence to the World Anti-Doping Code. While boxing is not yet officially part of the 2028 Games, the IOC’s recognition brings it closer to Olympic reinstatement. World Boxing President Boris van der Vorst emphasized the importance of this decision for the sport’s future.
