This year, Bangladesh has experienced its highest recorded temperature since 1989, with mercury reaching 43.8 degrees Celsius in the southwestern district of Jessore. Dhaka, the capital, also faced extreme heat, hitting 40.5 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days. This follows last year’s record-breaking temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius in Dhaka, the highest in 58 years. The scorching heat has taken a toll, with at least 10 deaths reported in a week. The government has taken measures such as closing schools until Thursday, as the country grapples with one of its most severe heat waves in recent memory.
