Germany’s antitrust watchdog announced that Meta has implemented measures giving users more control over their data, resolving a long-running dispute. In 2019, the Federal Cartel Office had ordered Meta (then Facebook) to stop merging user data without consent. After legal challenges, Meta introduced changes, such as an “accounts center” to separate data from Facebook and Instagram, and cookie settings to manage data use. Users will now receive clear notifications for consent options. The watchdog deemed these steps effective, closing the case, and noted Meta’s significant changes in handling user data.
