In the midst of Shantou City’s vibrant Spring Festival festivities in Guangdong Province, numerous participants showcased the traditional Yingge dance, an integral part of the city’s cultural heritage. Also recognized as the “Dance of the Heroes,” this intangible cultural treasure hails from southeast China and depicts the tale of Liangshan’s valiant heroes launching an attack on the Daming Mansion during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). With flamboyant makeup and vividly hued costumes, the performers skillfully embodied the fearless demeanor of ancient heroes, adding a touch of grandeur to the celebration.
