Evacuation continues following Indonesia’s Ruang volcano eruption

Hundreds of residents from Indonesia’s Tagulandang island await evacuation at the island’s port amidst ongoing eruptions from the Ruang volcano. The eruption, which occurred on Tuesday, prompted the evacuation of over 12,000 people. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation raised Ruang’s alert status to the highest level and warned of potential tsunamis. Evacuation efforts by the National Search and Rescue Agency are underway, with residents being transported to North Minahasa Regency on Sulawesi island. Manado’s Sam Ratulangi airport remains closed until Thursday, affecting flights to and from several cities in Malaysia’s Borneo. Ruang island is approximately 100 km from Manado, situated within Indonesia’s seismic “Pacific Ring of Fire” region.
