A 29-meter-long and 15-meter-high steel structure of the Olympic rings was unveiled on the Eiffel Tower on Thursday, marking the 50-day countdown to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Positioned on the tower’s south side, the rings overlook the River Seine, where the Games’ opening ceremony will occur, and will remain visible throughout the event from July 26 to August 11.
The structure was created from recycled steel at ArcelorMittal’s plants, showcasing a sustainable manufacturing process. The steel was melted, pre-rolled, and then further processed into plates that were cut, bent, welded, and painted.
Additionally, fragments of iron from the Eiffel Tower are being incorporated into the medals for the Olympics and Paralympics. The International Olympic Committee highlighted that each medal will include an original piece of the Eiffel Tower, designed in collaboration with Chaumet, an LVMH Group company and Premium Partner of Paris 2024.
