China and Guinea-Bissau elevated their relations to a strategic partnership during a meeting in Beijing between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo. Xi praised the deepening of bilateral relations and mutual political trust, expressing China’s support for Guinea-Bissau’s independent development path. He emphasized enhancing cooperation in agriculture, mining, infrastructure, and the blue economy under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Xi welcomed Guinea-Bissau’s agricultural products to China and encouraged Chinese investment in Guinea-Bissau. He also promised continued support in areas such as food security and public health, as well as educational exchanges and scholarships.
Embalo expressed gratitude for China’s unwavering support and highlighted China’s role in helping Guinea-Bissau’s development. He reiterated Guinea-Bissau’s commitment to the one-China principle and support for China’s core interests. Embalo also praised China’s non-interference in other countries’ affairs and its positive contributions to Africa.
Both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in various fields and signed multiple bilateral agreements.
