The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that more Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in fraud crimes will be repatriated from Myanmar. On Thursday, 200 suspects were returned to China via Thailand with the assistance of Chinese police. This repatriation is part of a joint operation between China, Thailand, and Myanmar to combat crimes such as online gambling and scams along the Thailand-Myanmar border. China thanked both Thailand and Myanmar for their efforts to dismantle scam gangs and protect citizens.
Chinese authorities have ramped up actions against telecom fraud, with Thailand cutting off resources to Myawaddy, Myanmar, where many scam operations are based. Myanmar has also deployed forces to raid fraud compounds and rescue victims. The Chinese Ministry of Public Security reported the arrest of over 53,000 suspects involved in fraud from northern Myanmar since July 2023, and Chinese courts have recently prosecuted major telecom fraud groups.
