The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) achieved a decisive victory in the fifth Senate election, winning at least 50 of the 58 seats, according to preliminary results. CPP’s spokesperson, Sok Eysan, declared the party’s success, securing over 80% of the total votes. This triumph follows their landslide victory in the general election in July 2023. Former Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the CPP president, is set to become the Senate president, granting him the position of acting head of state during the king’s overseas absences.
