Chinese Premier Li Qiang attended to discuss regional cooperation. Concerns were raised about the Philippines potentially raising South China Sea issues, but ASEAN leaders prioritized de-escalation. There was also opposition to Japan’s “Asian NATO” proposal, fearing it could incite regional tensions.
