Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has unveiled its latest AI processor, the MI325X accelerator, at the Computex technology trade show in Taipei, set to release in the fourth quarter of 2024. This move is part of AMD’s strategy to challenge Nvidia’s dominance in the AI chip market. AMD’s stock rose by 1.4%, while Nvidia’s increased by about 3% before the market opened.
AMD CEO Lisa Su emphasized that AI is the company’s top priority, with plans to release new products annually to meet market demands. AMD introduced the MI350 series, expected in 2025, promising 35 times better performance in AI inference than the current MI300 series. Additionally, the MI400 series, based on a new architecture called “Next,” will be available in 2026. This aggressive development cycle mirrors Nvidia’s strategy and aims to keep AMD competitive in the rapidly evolving AI chip industry.
