2024 Chinese Film Week Kicks Off in Yangon with a Grand Opening Ceremony

The 2024 Chinese Film Week officially launched on September 20 at the Yangon Chinese Cultural Center, marking a significant moment in cultural exchange between China and Myanmar.

Organized by The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar,  China Media Group – CGTN Myanmar, and the Yangon Chinese Cultural Center, the event highlights the longstanding cultural ties between the two nations. The opening ceremony saw key figures in attendance, including U Zay Yar, Deputy Director General of the Media Development Department at Myanmar’s Ministry of Information, and Minister Counsellor of Chinese Embassy in Myanmar , Dr. Zheng Zhihong, who both delivered speeches.

Minister Counsellor, Zheng Zhihong emphasized the importance of international film noting, “Film is an important carrier of human culture. Excellent works of film connect history and the future, and can promote the ideological arts and common goals of the people of the respective countries.”

China-Myanmar film cooperation dates back to 1960, when Myanmar’s cultural delegation visited China, initiating events like the “Myanmar Culture Week.” Today, such initiatives continue to thrive, growing bonds through media and storytelling.

The 2024 Chinese Film Week, running from September 20 to 24, features a free lineup of five captivating films, including  sci-fi hits “The Wandering Earth 1 & 2,”  the animated film “Chang An,” and documentaries like “Paths of the Soul” and “Song of the Phoenix”. The opening film, The Wandering Earth 1, delighted the audience with its futuristic visuals and thought-provoking narrative.

Representatives from the Myanmar News and Media Council, the Myanmar Writers Association, the Myanmar Film Promotion Department, the Myanmar Motion Picture Association, Yangon University of Foreign Languages, the National University of Arts and Culture, the Myanmar-China Friendship Association, the Chinese Language Academy, local Chinese communities, and various media groups attended.
