NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore took their first spacewalk together on Thursday, nearly eight months after arriving at the International Space Station. They removed a broken antenna and checked for microbes on the station’s exterior. After struggling to unbolt the antenna, they succeeded nearly four hours into the spacewalk.
Originally expected to stay for a week, the pair remained in orbit due to issues with Boeing’s Starliner capsule, which was sent back empty. They will return in March or April aboard a SpaceX capsule. Williams set a new record for female astronauts with nine spacewalks, surpassing Peggy Whitson’s previous record.
