China has started a new round of experiments on its HL-3 “artificial sun,” a large, advanced nuclear fusion device. For the first time, a digital twin system—an accurate virtual model of the HL-3—will be used to monitor key operations like the vacuum chamber baking process, which is essential for creating a stable fusion environment. This digital twin enhances control by allowing real-time monitoring, making the facility safer and more efficient. HL-3, which opened for international collaboration last year, continues to attract researchers worldwide and recently achieved a breakthrough in magnetic field design.
