China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, and Japan’s National Security Secretariat head, Takeo Akiba, met in Beijing for high-level political talks. Wang emphasized that China and Japan should work on improving relations by following their leaders’ consensus, fostering constructive ties, and maintaining a stable relationship. Both sides committed to the principles in their four foundational political documents, aiming to enhance mutual benefits, sustain economic cooperation, and uphold a stable supply chain. They agreed to accelerate the implementation of agreements on handling nuclear-contaminated water from Fukushima. Wang reiterated China’s peaceful development stance, urging resistance to external forces that could disrupt regional peace.
