The Kunming Biodiversity Fund’s Executive Council approved nine projects spanning 15 countries during COP16 of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in Cali, Colombia. These initiatives, led by China, focus on developing countries and aim to advance the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) goals, including ecosystem restoration, sustainable biodiversity use, and invasive species control. China initially pledged around $210 million to launch the fund, which began in May 2024. COP16, running until November 1, gathers over 12,000 participants to discuss KMGBF implementation and financial resource mobilization.
