The 19th China (Qufu) International Confucius Culture Festival celebrated the 2024 UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy, recognizing projects from Nigeria, Egypt, and Indonesia for their contributions to literacy education, especially for marginalized groups.
- Nigeria’s “FastTrack”: Developed by Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative, it addresses literacy needs of displaced children using multilingual education to foster inter-community understanding.
- Egypt’s “Illiteracy Eradication Project”: Led by Mansoura University, it aims to eliminate illiteracy in rural areas through courses in Arabic and local languages, promoting cultural pride.
- Indonesia’s “Sokola Literacy Education”: The Sokola Institute teaches indigenous communities with a culturally relevant approach that respects local traditions.
The awards highlight the integration of cultural heritage into education, aligning with Confucius’s vision of inclusive, contextually appropriate learning that promotes societal well-being.
