Wildfire sweeps Turkish city, forces hundreds to evacuate

A forest fire in Türkiye’s western port city of Izmir has spread to residential areas, forcing the evacuation of around 900 residents, according to local media. The fire, which began in the Karsiyaka district and has been burning for three days, reached neighborhoods and an industrial site on Saturday. Despite intense firefighting efforts, dense smoke and falling ash caused widespread fear, with residents fleeing their homes. No casualties have been reported, but social media showed people rescuing animals from barns affected by the fire. Türkiye’s Agriculture and Forestry Minister warned of worsening fire conditions due to low humidity, strong winds, and high temperatures.
