Logan Edra, a 21-year-old Filipina American, secured her spot on Team USA for the Olympics after officially qualifying last month. Despite being one of the world’s top breakers, her journey to the Paris Games was longer than expected. Known as b-girl Logistx, Edra is ranked No. 14 globally and has risen rapidly in the breaking scene since 2018. She faced a setback at the 2022 Red Bull BC One World Final but triumphed at the Olympic Qualifier Series in Budapest in June.
As breaking debuts as an Olympic sport, Edra and her teammates navigate the pressures of performing a uniquely American art form on a global stage. “It’s a lonely journey,” Edra said, emphasizing personal growth over the accolades.
Team USA’s breakers, including Victor Montalvo (b-boy Victor), embrace the responsibility of representing the birthplace of hip-hop. “We’re going to bring a vibe, peace, love, unity, and having fun,” Montalvo said. While breaking is sometimes seen as having faded in the U.S., Edra highlighted its global vibrancy.
