Donald Trump has chosen 39-year-old Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate for the upcoming presidential election. Trump announced the decision on his social media platform, Truth Social, after the Republican Party officially nominated him at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Vance, elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022, was initially a Trump critic but has since become an ally. In response to Trump’s pick, President Joe Biden called Vance a “clone” of Trump on the issues.
Trump, who recently survived an assassination attempt, secured the nomination with a majority of delegate votes, including pivotal support from Florida. This marks Trump’s third consecutive presidential campaign, following his 2016 victory and 2020 defeat.
