Tropical Storm Beryl hit southeast Texas on Monday, causing severe damage with strong winds and heavy rain. The storm resulted in at least three fatalities, flooded highways, closed oil ports, canceled over 1,300 flights, and caused power outages for more than 2.7 million homes and businesses. Initially the season’s earliest Category 5 hurricane, Beryl weakened to a tropical storm after battering Matagorda with storm surges and rain before moving through Houston, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
