In a meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized China’s commitment to prioritizing Vietnam in its neighborhood diplomacy. He expressed willingness to collaborate with Vietnam to foster a shared future between the two countries. Wang highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, digital economy, and green development. He also stressed the significance of strengthening people-to-people exchanges to deepen the friendship between China and Vietnam. Furthermore, Wang urged joint efforts in upholding international justice, supporting multilateralism, and addressing mutual interests. He emphasized the importance of managing differences, particularly in maritime issues, and resolving conflicts through cooperation rather than confrontation. Wang cautioned against actions that could undermine regional peace and stability. In response, Bui affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to prioritizing relations with China and fostering close coordination on various levels. He reiterated Vietnam’s adherence to the one-China policy and its opposition to interference in other countries’ internal affairs under the pretext of human rights and democracy. Bui expressed Vietnam’s readiness to work with China in managing differences and promoting maritime cooperation, including discussions on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, to ensure peace and stability in the region.
