Kim Jong Un, the top leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), has called on the armed forces to enhance military capabilities for the “eternal security” of the state, according to the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). Speaking during a visit to the Ministry of National Defense on the 76th founding anniversary of the Korean People’s Army (KPA), Kim emphasized the need for the DPRK to possess “absolute might” capable of resisting any provocation and controlling the enemy. He designated the Republic of Korea (ROK) as the “first enemy state” and declared the occupation and subjugation of ROK territory as a state policy for the DPRK’s eternal security. Kim stressed the importance of the KPA having greater strength to prevent war and safeguard peace, asserting that peace is not something to be negotiated but something to be protected through invincible strength. He emphasized the readiness of the KPA for war and warned of decisive action to annihilate the enemy if they resort to armed force against the DPRK.
