Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have been sentenced to 14 years in jail in a case related to the illegal selling of state gifts. The verdict also includes a 10-year disqualification from holding public office. This comes a day after Khan received a 10-year jail term in another case involving the disclosure of state secrets, and a week before national elections. Khan had previously been given a three-year prison sentence in August for selling gifts received during his 2018-2022 premiership. The latest verdict is connected to the same matter and follows an investigation by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Despite Khan’s claim of legally purchasing the state gifts, government officials allege that his aides sold the gifts in Dubai.
