According to the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, artificial intelligence (AI) is projected to impact 60 percent of jobs in advanced economies, as stated in an IMF report. The impact is expected to be 40 percent in emerging markets and 26 percent in low-income countries. The report notes that while half of the jobs affected by AI may face negative consequences, the rest could benefit from increased productivity. Georgieva highlighted the potential for AI to either enhance or eliminate jobs, emphasizing the importance of policy prescriptions to address the impact, particularly in helping low-income countries capitalize on AI opportunities. She acknowledged the dual nature of AI – a source of concern but also a significant opportunity for everyone.
