The 19th Asian Games concluded in Hangzhou, China after 15 days of intense competition. It featured 11,830 athletes from 45 countries and regions, participating in 481 events across 61 disciplines in 40 sports. A total of 15 world records, 37 Asian records, and 170 Asian Games records were achieved, showcasing outstanding performances. China, with 886 athletes, won a record-breaking 201 gold, 11 silver, and 71 bronze medals, securing the top spot in the medal standings for the 11th consecutive time. Xie Zhenye, a double gold medalist, carried the flag for China at the closing ceremony.
The ceremony itself was an 85-minute farewell party, incorporating innovative LED technology and augmented reality, transforming the stadium into a stunning garden. The digital torchbearer, now named Pioneer, symbolizing a courageous figure in a rapidly changing era, bid farewell as the flame was extinguished. The next Asian Games will be held in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan in 2026.
