Wine Expo Myanmar 2019

03 October 2019

The very-first-ever Wine Expo Myanmar successfully kicked off in Yangon.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Wine Expo Myanmar 2019, Mr. Shawn Lee, Managing Director of Asia Expo Services Ltd as well as Project Director of Wine Expo Myanmar explained.

“Myanmar is a country of 54 million people that is modernizing and growing rapidly. From my first visit in 2010, I encountered a beautiful nation that is not just hungry for change but also keen to engage with the world. With my background in the wine industry, I was inspired to bring the world’s wines to Myanmar so that we could spark the connection. This has led my partners and I to establish Wine Expo Myanmar, which will take place annually and hopefully act as a catalyst for growing the new generations of wine lovers in the country.

With the aim of connecting Myanmar to the rest of the world, more than 200 brands of wine were showcased in the Wine Expo, from major wine producing countries such as France, Italy, USA, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Protugal and China.

Following the Wine Expo Myanmar, not only wine products, but the Myanmar food and other foods & beverages were presented. Now, let’s hear what Ambassador of Italy to Myanmar, H.E Ms. Alessandra Schiavo has to say.

“Because of some historical reason, Myanmar has been left behind. However, the market is now opening up and Myanmar has a lot of potential to grow up in the business sector. Today, I am very pleased to be here in this Wine Expo Myanmar 2019. Actually, Italy is one of the major exporters of wine to the rest of the world. So, some of our wine exporters from Italy are in this event and we are looking forward to doing further bilateral ties between Italy and Myanmar. This kind of platform will pave the way to open the economic door for two countries.”

Following the Wine Expo, not only wine products, but a variety of Myanmar foods was introduced to the visitors from both local and international.

Ms. Margherita Bidoli, Export Manager of Vidoli Vini told MI Radio that she was so excited to introduce the wine products from Italy, Vidoli Vini. “It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our brands to the rest of the world and particularly to the people of Myanmar. Vidoli Vini are very special products from Italy.”

The Wine Expo Myanmar 2019 also featured various seminars on wine products and the collaboration between wines and Myanmar foods, led by different kinds of restaurants including SPRUCE and Wolf Kitchen.
