Myanmar is very delighted to host the 7th South East Asian Open Archery Championships 2018. It has been sixth time for Myanmar hosting the Archery Competition in South East Asians. Being the 282 medal holders at various competitions, Myanmar Archery Federation has been running for 23 years now.
Founded in 1995, Myanmar Archery Federation has been taking part in almost 100 competitions with the total 282 medal rewards, explained Mr. Kyaw Oo, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Sport from Ministry of Health and Sport as well as vice president of Myanmar Archery Federation.
“Myanmar Archery Federation is founded in 1995. We have taken part in almost 100 competitions internationally. We have got altogether 94 gold medals, 97 silver medals, 92 bronze medals. So altogether, we have achieved 282 medals.”
Myanmar has hosted the South East Asian Open Archery Championships for six times now and Philippine hosted once. On Behalf of Myanmar team, Mr. Kyaw Oo said they are hoping for the best from this competition.
In this one-week-long competition, there are different teams from South East Asians including Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Bangladesh and Hong Kong.
Team official of Lao PDR representative, Mr. Tatsuki Hamada Frank expressed that they are very excited to be here in Myanmar.
“The Laos Team is very excited to be here in Myanmar. We have been preparing since way before we have arrived here. Currently, it is the day for the equipment set up and the inspection of the equipment. I believe we are well prepared and we are very excited to be here.”
There are a total of eight athletes participating from Laos, two coaches and team official. Mr. Frank commented that Archery Sport in South East Asia is growing year by year.
“I definitely think that Archery Sport is growing year by year. We can obviously see that there are much more participants every year. It does not matter whether it is in Myanmar, Thailand or Laos PDR. Every time, the participation is increasing and every time, the score is getting better.”
“We hope to get the best out of the score. We hope that all the athletes including Laos, Thai, Hong Kong, Myanmar and everybody do their best.”
Mr. Nay Lin Oo, Myanmar team player said he has been playing Archery for 6 or 7 years now. He said that the main motivation of playing Archery is his hobby and his dream becoming an Olympic player one day.
“I have been playing the Archery sport since 6 or 7 years ago. What motivates me to be Archer is first of all, it is my hobby and secondly, I want to become an international player who has the ability to join the Olympics. So, I have been trying hard always to get better result.”
Being an Archery player in Myanmar, Mr. Nay Lin Oo has achieved 2 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal.
For this 7th South East Asian Open Archery Championship, he has prepared a lot with proper trainings from a Korean coach. The Korean coach has trained all Myanmar team members to his best; thereby player’s shooting skill has improved incredibly so as to achieve many awards.
There are altogether 16 players from Myanmar and Mr. Nay Lin Oo said his ultimate dream is to become a Gold Medal player of Olympics as a representative from Myanmar.
“As a representative from Myanmar, I have dreamed to reach the level of Olympics. In this competition, there are altogether 16 players from Myanmar including myself. For oversea competition, the chosen representatives will be sent with team category. In the future, I am dreaming to become a Gold Medal player of Olympic as a representative from Myanmar.”
The 7th South East Asian Open Archery Championships 2018 will be taking place at Kyaikkasan Stadium from the 2nd of November to the 8th of November.
