The first Myanmar Commerce Fair 2018 took place at the Yangon Convention Center, Myanmar. At least 120 exhibitors from all business sectors both local and global joined the fair. The two-day-long event, from Dec 1 to 2 attracted over 20,000 visitors from across the country and also from ASEAN region.
At the following event, special honorable guests, regulators, industry leaders, banks, policy makers and academia spoke at the event on current and future aspects of the socio-economic affairs in Myanmar.
With the theme, “Together for nation’s socio-economic development”, Myanmar Commerce Fair 2018 was mainly organized by Pico and Synergy Focus International (SFI).
From the government sides, different ministries and organizations joined the fair including MAC, DICA, Commerce Graduate Association, Office of the Auditor General, Ministry of Commerce, Anti-Corruption Commission, Myanmar Insurance and more.
Organizer of the event, U Moe Kyaw, Managing Partner of Win Thin & Associates explained his opinion on the fair. He said it was such a successful event joined by ministers, private sector, business partners, and citizens. He also said, he is quite positive about the development process of Myanmar because the country’s is now gradually opening up and developing despite of some challenges. Two years ago, when the National League for Democracy (NLD) took power, the government has faced plenty of challenges such as Bengali issue and the international pressure put on the government. However, he said, he is quite positive about it and the country is now becoming more stable in term of politic, economy and social.
U Moe Kyaw explained more the atmosphere of the Myanmar Commerce Fair. Many government officials and experts joined the panel discussion on the topics. On Dec 1, the panel discussions were Union Budget and Fiscal Transparency / Role of Government / Presentation on MSDP, Current Economic Affair in Myanmar led by Dr. Aung Ko Ko, Economist, NLD Economic Committee, Facts to know in Trade Policy led by U Thaung Su Nyein, CEO & MD of Information Matrix Co., Ltd., and Myanmar Taxation and Future Tax Policy led by Dr Khin Maung Nyunt, Senior Research Fellow, MDI.
Following the event, on Dec 2, the panel discussion topics included Banking & Finance /Banking Sector Development, Investment & Companies Affairs, Insurance and Financial Sector: Opportunities and Challenges, Anti-corruption & Anti-Bribery moderated by Dr. Aung Tun Thet , Economist and Future Transformation of Digital Economy in Myanmar led by U Ye Yint Win , Vice-president, Myanmar Computer Federation.
Implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards and International Standards on Auditing-current and future impact on accounting profession led by Dr. Tin Latt , Vice Chairman , MICPA
One of the booth exhibitors, U Khin Maung Gyi, Associate Secretary of Myanmar Society of Accounting said, they are very pleased to join 2018 Myanmar Commerce Fair. He said, it was a great opportunity to do networking with different business partners. Since 1939, Myanmar Society of Accounting has been running and not it’s going to be 81 year anniversary of it, so he said he never experienced this kind of commerce fair before, joining at the same venue with all different stakeholders from government official level to the public.
